Swimming Pool Owners Extension |
A further government back-flip on legislation prohibiting the sale of properties without a valid pool safety certificate has given property owners an additional 12 months to have their swimming pools certified.
Due to a serious shortage of qualified pool inspectors, and fears that the delays in inspections would damage the property market, the NSW Government has extended the pool licence deadline by 12 months to 29 April 2016.
This does not mean that you should delay in having your pool certified, especially if you plan to sell or rent your property in the near future as it also includes renewal of existing leases.
Whilst training new pool inspectors is due to commence in March 2015, there is an estimated 90% of pools non compliant and the wait time for an inspector, and if necessary any rectifications, is not short.
Putting aside legal requirements, social aspects enforce the need to ensure your pool is compliant, especially as we head into winter and the swimming pool gets less and less attention.
ITC will provide a further update and reminder later this year, just in time for summer.
